Malaysia recorded a trade value of 85.36 billion ringgit (23.07 billion U.S. dollars) in April this year, up 8.6 percent compared with the same month last year, according to statistics released by Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry Friday.
The exports in April amounted to 46.30 billion ringgit (12.51 billion U.S. dollars) in value, up 6.3 percent year-on-year, while the imports posted 39.09 billion ringgit (10.56 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.4 percent, the Ministry said.
A trade surplus of 7.21 billion ringgit (1.95 billion U.S. dollars) was recorded in the month this year, making it the 102th consecutive month to record a trade surplus in the country since November 1997.
The trade surplus in March 2006 amounted to 9.58 billion ringgit (2.59 billion U.S. dollars).
From January to April this year, the total trade value was recorded at 333.03 billion ringgit (90.01 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 11.5 percent compared with the same period of last year.
Exports during the four month period rose 10.2 percent to 183. 01 billion ringgit (49.46 billion U.S. dollars), while imports went up 13.1 percent to 150.01 billion ringgit (40.54 billion U.S. dollars), the ministry said.
