font size

Nepali government has called on the industrialists and business community to increase investment by turning the peaceful situation seen in the country into an opportunity for investment, Radio Nepal reported on Monday.

Addressing the pre-budget discussion program organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry here Sunday, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat said the present situation, when the peace talks between the government and the guerrilla are going on, is the proper time for increasing investment.

Noting that the government of Nepal is committed to creating a conducive environment for investment, the minister called on the private sector to increase investment as far as permitted by their capacity for attainment of economic growth.

He said the government has already issued a White Paper on the economic situation of the country in the parliament and additional information will also be announced soon through the policy and programs.

Mahat added that the government could not provide concessions to the individuals not paying back the bank loans in the name of industrial investment and that the financial laws will be made more stringent in this regard.
