font size

Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva said Monday in Lison that his country would further boost cooperation in the fields of trade, culture, science, and technology with China and strengthen communication and coordination with China in international affairs.

Silva made the remarks during a meeting with Wang Zhaoguo, the visiting vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC).

Silva said Portugal greatly valued its relations with China and would continue to adhere to the one-China policy.

For his part, Wang said Sino-Portuguese cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and trade, culture, and education had been constantly improving.

"The recent establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Portugal has brought great prospects for bilateral relations," Wang said.

Also on Monday, Wang held talks with Portugal's Parliament Speaker Jaime Gama.

Gama said Portugal's Assembly of the Republic would like to have more exchanges and cooperation with the NPC, China's top legislature.

Wang, who arrived here on Sunday for a visit, told Gama that parliamentary cooperation was an important part of bilateral relations and that the NPC would further expand its exchanges with Portugal's Assembly of the Republic at various levels.
