font size

A U.S. soldier was killed on Monday when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.

A soldier from the 49th Military Police Brigade was killed when insurgents blew up an improvised explosive device near a U.S. military patrol at 08:23 p.m. (1623 GMT) on June 5, the U.S. military said in a brief statement.

The name of the killed soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement added.

The latest death has brought to over 2,470 the number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
