Chinese delegation of wireless encryption technology WAPI quit the on-going Prague meeting due to "unfair" treatment, the delegation said Thursday afternoon in an e-mailed statement to Xinhua.

The Chinese delegation was not allowed to elaborate its views and the atmosphere was "severely unfair" to WAPI, said the statement. The delegation of 10 quit the meeting to seek for a "fair" solution.

The meeting held in Prague, capital of Czech Republic, was supposed to give full expression to objections against either the Chinese WAPI or its rival American 11i, hoping to reach a consensus in this way.

China and the United States have submitted the two technologies to the International Standardization Organization (ISO), hoping to make them become international standards of wireless encryption. The fast track ballot ended on March 7.

According to ISO rules, national bodies voting against either of the two technologies should attend the meeting and state their reasons. But only seven of the 17 countries opposing WAPI showed up at the meeting.

The meeting, which opened in Prague on Wednesday, is scheduled to close on Thursday local time.
