Kuwait, Saudi Arabia to conduct seismic survey in gas-rich Durra fieldKuwaiti Oil Undersecretary Eissa al Oun said here on Wednesday that his country and Saudi Arabic have decided to jointly carry out a seismic survey in the Durra field, a maritime gas-rich district in the Gulf. In an address before an oil conference, Oun said the tender was jointly endorsed by the Gulf Oil Company of Kuwait and Saudi Arabian Aramco company, which will take charge of managing the Saudi-Kuwait divided zone. The seismic survey will last six months after three months' preparation, al Oun was quoted by the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) as saying. Seismic survey is usually conducted as a preparation for exploitation of a gas or oil field. The Kuwaiti official anticipated 600 million cubic feet (16.99 million cubic meter) of gas to be produced per day from the Durra field, with a 50 percent share of each country. The Durra field development process have faced several political and logistic obstacles in the previous time, al Oun said, noting that hurdles before the implementation of the process have been removed after agreement of higher authorities in both countries. Durra field lies on the Kuwaiti-Saudi maritime border but part of it also lies in Iran which also makes claims to the field.
