Zambia to lease depot in Tanzanian port city of Dar es SalaamThe Zambian government will lease its depot in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in order to free government sources and allow private participation in the operation of the facility, Times of Zambia reported Thursday. According to a tender notice, the government through the Ministry of Communication and Transport has called for bid from eligible firms to operate the facility on a commercial basis. Prospective bidders should be individual Zambian firms, consortia of firms or joint ventures with foreign firms but preference will be given to firms where the leading shareholder is Zambian. The other objective for the decision is to facilitate trade and economic development through provision of efficient, reliable and cost-effective port facilities for Zambian and regional imports and exports. The Mukuba depot comprise an 80,800 square meter shipyard to the nearest yard to the Tanzania Port Authority and the port of Dar es Salaam. It includes a 1,600 square meter of covered warehousing areas, a vehicle service area and a spacious offices among others.
