    High-tech train for the Beijing-Tibet Railway

    The photo shows the sewage junction point of a carriage of train on Qinghai-Tibet railway. Golmud to Tibet railway, one part of the Qinghai-Tibet railway is going to start its pilot operation on July 1. The passenger trains are ready to set out. With environment protection and oxygen producing technologies, the electric-powered trains have a designed speed of 160 KPH.

    Airbus A330-200 first joins China's west route

    An Airbus A330-200 wide-body airplane parks in the Shuangliu Airport of Chengdu, west China's Sichuan Province. An Airbus A330-200 wide-body airplane landed in Shuangliu International Airport on Thursday. The plane, introduced by China Southwest Airlines, will join in China's west route for the first time. The company invested $900,000 to remake the plane, which has enhanced the plane's flight performance. This plane will mainly fly to Lahsa, Beijing and Shenzhen.

    Mt. Merapi erupts in searing gas clouds, lava

    Lava flows down Mount Merapi in Indonesia on Thursday, June 8. The volcano erupted in searing clouds of gas and lava on Thursday morning, and the local government requested residents to evacuate to the rendezvous, according to local TV report.

    10 missing in colliery flood in SW China

    Chinese rescue miners walk out a coal mine after searching for 10 missing in a colliery flood in Nanchuan, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, June 8, 2006. A local government spokesperson said the flood occurred at around 2:15 a.m.. Eighteen miners were working in the pit and eight of them escaped, according to Xinhua News Agency. Rescue work is going on.
