French speakers on Thursday met with Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, to exchange views on the development of bilateral ties.

During the separate meetings with Wang, President of the Senate Christian Poncelet and President of the National Assembly Jean-Louis Debre welcomed the visit by the Chinese delegation of legislators, which they saw as an important event in promoting French-Sino relations, especially the exchanges between the two parliaments.

France is willing to enhance cooperation in all fields with China, as is the broad consensus being held by all walks of life in France, said the French speakers.

They reassured the visiting Chinese legislators that France would firmly adhere to the one-China policy. They also pledged to help China improve ties with the 25-member European Union.

Wang spoke highly of the development of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, saying China and France have successfully conducted top-level exchanges, deepened mutual trust and maintained good coordination and cooperation on key international issues.

The remarkable headway in the Sino-French cooperation is also witnessed in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, culture, education, as well as legal affairs, said the senior Chinese official.

China wants to expand and deepen cooperation with France in all fields, especially economy and trade, Wang told the French speakers.

He pledged continued efforts to further exchanges between the two parliaments, including those between parliamentary sub-committees or friendship organizations, to contribute to better ties between China and France.

The Chinese official hoped Paris would continue to play its important role in the European Union in developing Sino-EU relations.

Wang arrived here on Wednesday on an official goodwill visit at the invitation of Debre. The Chinese delegation had previously visited Portugal and Finland.
