Volvo Malaysia targets a higher sales volume of 400 trucks this year, its managing director Olof Rapp said Friday.

"Demand for trucks in Malaysia remains strong in a very competitive market," Rapp said at the launching of the Volvo FM truck near here.

The new truck, which costs around 300,000 ringgit (81,081 U.S. dollars), will help Volvo Malaysia to achieve the targeted sales, said Rapp.

The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sweden-based AB Volvo Group, has already sold over 300 trucks this year.

Meanwhile, Volvo Malaysia's truck sales director Lim Eng Loon said the company plans to expand its service centers to other parts of Malaysia.

Currently, the company has nine service centers, most of them located in areas around Kuala Lumpur and southern part of the country, and now plans to add three more centers, probably in northern areas, Lim said.

Last year, Volvo Malaysia sold a total of 250 trucks, registering an increase of 6.5 percent on a year-on-year basis.
