Samsung to build memory chip line with 646 mln USD

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest computer memory chip manufacturer, announced Monday that it will build a new memory chip production lines with about 646.2 million U.S. dollars.

The move is to prepare for a rising demand for memory chips, the company said in a regulatory filing.

It is part of a plan unveiled last September by the South Korean company to invest a total of 33 trillion won (34.518 billion U.S. dollars) by 2012 to construct nine new production lines for memory chips in Hwaseong, 70 kilometers south of Seoul.
