Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" debates motion of ousting Chen Shui-bian
font size

Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" opened a special session on Tuesday to debate the motion of recalling Chen Shui-bian, as corruption scandals surrounded the Taiwan leader and his Democratic Progressive Party.

That means the formal launch of the recall motion, which is backed by Kuomintang (KMT) party and the People First Party, according to reports of Taiwan media.

The motion listed 10 reasons to recall Chen, such as violation of laws and creating political chaos, corruption and failing to invigorate economy.

According to the agenda of the session, the "Legislative Yuan" will ask Chen to give oral or written answer to the charges before June 21. The members of the "Legislative Yuan" will debate the recall motion against Chen and cast vote on June 27.

If the motion is passed with the consent of two-thirds of the "Legislative Yuan" members, it will be subjected to a public referendum. And if the majority of voters want Chen's ouster, then Chen must resign.
