Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf will attend the second Summit of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on June 17, according to official announcement on Friday.
This will be in response to an invitation from President Nursultan Nazarbeav of Kazakhstan which was delivered in Islamabad by a special envoy, a foreign office statement said.
The Summit in Almaty will be attended by a number of leaders from the 17 CICA member countries, which includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand and Turkey.
During the Summit, the president will have bilateral meetings with the heads of state and heads of government of some countries, the statement said.
"The participation of Pakistan at this high level reflects the great importance that Pakistan places on confidence building in all fields in Asia, and with our close relations with the Central Asian states," it noted.
Musharraf participated in the first CICA Summit held in Almaty on June 4, 2002. The Summit meeting adopted the Almaty Act and CICA Declaration on Eliminating Terrorism and Promoting Dialogue among Civilizations.
The objective of CICA is to renew efforts to create an improved security environment in Asia. The first CICA meeting was held in April 1993.
