The conjunction of Saturn and Mars is to take place on the evening of June 18, 2006. People in Guangzhou, and other regions in China, even some areas in Asia and Africa will witness the rare phenomenon provided the sky is clear, the Guangdong Astronomy Society forecasts.
The conjunction will be visible after the sun sets, because the two planets are to the east of the Sun. The best time for observation lasts for 60 minutes. On the evening of June 17, Mars is to the west of Saturn; on the evening of June 18, Mars will be to the east of Saturn.
People can start observation 40 minutes after the sunset. People in Guangzhou are recommended to watch the phenomenon after 19:54 low in the northwest sky.
