China hopes Sri Lanka could realize national peace and stability as soon as possible, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu Friday.

Jiang made the remarks when asked to comment on the Sri Lanka's bus blast which happened Thursday.

"As a friendly neighbor of Sri Lanka, China hopes the country could achieve peace and stability at an early date," she said.

China supports the Sri Lankan government's positive efforts to promote national stability, ethnic reconciliation and economic development, the spokeswoman said.

A bomb explosion hit a packed passenger bus in Sri Lanka's North Central Province Thursday morning, killing 64 and injuring more than 80 people.
