Following protests from communities, the Nepali Ministry of Education and Sports recently scrapped the concept of constructing low quality temporary school buildings and has come up with plans to build proper ones from next year, The Himalayan Times reported on Monday.
The education ministry decided to stop funding low quality school buildings, an official at the department said, adding " unreliable and low quality schools" as it received numerous complaints from the communities.
Meanwhile, senior divisional engineer at the Physical Service Unit, Department of Education Sambhu Rasa Upreti said stronger buildings will be constructed from next year.
According to the report, the concept was introduced to complement the "School welcome program and student enrollment campaign" introduced two years ago with a view to admitting 16 percent children who were still out of school.
Around 1,774 schools were constructed this year in 50 districts of the country - mostly in the Terai region in southern Nepal where the enrollment rate has gone up drastically especially due to internal migration.
