China and Ghana have reached broad agreement on wide-ranging issues of mutual interest, according to a joint communique issued Monday before Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao ended his one-day official visit to Accra at the invitation of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

"The two leaders reached broad agreement on wide-ranging bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest," said the communique.

The two sides pledged in the communiqu to support each other on matters concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Ghanaian side reiterated its adherence to the One-China policy, in recognition that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.

The two sides agreed to work together to tap potential in their economic and trade relations and step up cooperation in infrastructure construction, telecommunications and human resources development.

They also agreed to enhance exchange and cooperation in health, culture, education and tourism. The Chinese side will send medical teams to Ghana and the two sides will enhance cooperation in the prevention and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases.

To support the development of education in Ghana, the Chinese side will continue to provide scholarships and opportunities for professional training to the Ghanaian side. It formally extended to Ghana the status of approved destination for Chinese tour groups.

The two sides decided to strengthen cooperation in international affairs and to maintain necessary consultation and coordination, regular or otherwise, on major international issues such as poverty reduction, debt relief, UN reform, human rights and counter-terrorism to jointly safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries and promote world peace and development.
