China and Ghana issued a joint communique Monday before Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao ended his one- day official visit to Ghana at the invitation of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Following is the full text:

I. At the invitation of President John Agyekum Kufuor of the Republic of Ghana, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the People's Republic of China paid an official visit to the Republic of Ghana from 18 to 19 June 2006.

II. During the visit, Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with President John Agyekum Kufuor on issues of common interest to China and Ghana. Desirous of enhancing the friendly and cordial relations between the two countries, the two leaders reached broad agreement on wide-ranging bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. After the talks, the two sides signed documents on bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, telecommunications, culture, education and health.

III. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the steady growth of China-Ghana friendly relations and cooperation in recent years and decided to strengthen high-level contact and friendly exchange at all levels, deepen cooperation in various fields, enhance the existing friendship, and deepen and widen the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Ghana.

IV. The two sides pledged to support each other on matters concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Ghanaian side reiterated its adherence to the one China policy, in recognition that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Ghanaian side stated its support for China's great cause of peaceful national reunification. The Chinese side expressed its deep appreciation of the above-mentioned position of Ghana.

V. The two sides agreed to work together to tap potential in their economic and trade relations and step up cooperation in infrastructure construction, telecommunications and human resources development. The two Governments will encourage companies of the two countries to expand business ties and cooperation and will create favorable conditions for boosting bilateral trade and investment. China will continue to provide assistance to Ghana to the best of its ability to contribute to Ghana's economic and social development. The Chinese side is ready to continue discussions on the Bui Dam project and find a way that is acceptable to both sides so as to work out a win-win solution.

VI. The two sides agreed to enhance exchange and cooperation in health, culture, education and tourism. The Chinese side will send medical teams to Ghana and the two sides will enhance cooperation in the prevention and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases. To support the development of education in Ghana, the Chinese side will continue to provide scholarships and opportunities for professional training to the Ghanaian side. It formally extended to Ghana the status of an approved destination for Chinese tour groups.

VII. The two sides decided to strengthen cooperation in international affairs and, as necessary, to maintain consultation and coordination, regular or otherwise, on major international issues such as poverty reduction, debt relief, UN reform, human rights and counter-terrorism to jointly safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries and promote world peace and development.

VIII. The two sides spoke highly of China-Africa friendly relations and cooperation and committed themselves to the building of a new type of China-Africa strategic partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchange. The two sides agreed to strengthen consultation and coordination and work vigorously for a successful Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Premier Wen Jiabao extended the invitation from Chinese President Hu Jintao to President John Agyekum Kufuor to attend the Summit. President Kufuor accepted the invitation.

IX. Both sides were glad that Premier Wen Jiabao had a successful visit to Ghana. Premier Wen Jiabao thanked President Kufuor and the Ghanaian Government and people for their warm reception and gracious hospitality.
