FM spokeswoman: China self-supplies over 90% of energy
font size

China supplies most of her necessary energy, said Jiang Yu, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on June 20th when commenting on the China-Angola cooperation that is ensured during Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Angola.

She said that China is a large energy consumer and also a big energy producer. China develops her energy supply policy according to her actual conditions. China sticks to developing new energies and energy-saving technologies and plans and also makes great efforts to improve the efficiency of energy utilization. China has been supplying over 90% of her needed energies. However, China's per capita energy consumption is less than 1/8 of the U.S.'s, suggesting there is a large potential energy supply market. As for oil, China depends on imported oil much less than developed countries do. In 2004 China's imported crude oil only made up 6% of the world's traded oil. Its oil consumption accounts for 8% of world consumption. Its per capita amount of imported crude oil is 30% of world's average, and equal to 5.2% of the U.S.'s per capita amount and 5.5% of Japan's.

When speaking of Premier Wen Jiabao's visit, Jiang Yu said that China will sign a series of cooperative contracts with Angola in terms of judicature, health care, economy and trade during Premier Wen's visit between June 20th and 21st. China's energy cooperation is part of a bilateral commercial collaboration with Anglo. China has always tried to establish a win-win commercial relationship with other countries. The energy cooperation is a part of China's foreign relations. China will carry out the energy cooperation work with other countries by sticking to the principles of mutual benefits and international rules. It aims to maintain the order of international energy market through this kind of collaboration with other countries.
