China urges parties concerned to help maintain peace, stability in NE Asia

China on Thursday expressed concern over the tensions aroused by the reported missile test of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and urged parties concerned to act in a way conducive to the region's peace and stability.

"We've noticed relevant reports and the position of each party. We are very concerned about the current situation," China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a news briefing.

Jiang said China has always been devoted to maintaining the peace and stability of the northeast Asia and China will continue to make constructive efforts to achieve these goals.

On the six-party talks, Jiang said China has maintained close contact and communication with all parties concerned and made active efforts for the resumption.

She said China believes that all parties should firmly follow the path of peacefully resolving the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue through dialogue, firmly uphold the goal of realizing a nuclear weapon-free Korean Peninsular and firmly push forward the six-party negotiation process.

"China will make unremitting efforts with all other parties to jointly push forward the peaceful negotiation process," she said.

The spokeswoman also expressed her hope that all parties would show flexibility and make more efforts to improve mutual trust in order to restart the six-party talks as soon as possible.
