Singapore's CPI up 1.1 percent in May

Singapore's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.1 percent in May over the corresponding month of last year, according to the figures released by the Singapore Department of Statistics (SDS) on Friday.

The price index for housing rose by 3.2 percent in May over a year ago while that for education and stationery grew by 2.1 percent in the same month.

The CPI for food rose by 1.6 percent in the fifth month of this year and the indices for health care and clothing and footware grew by 1.1 percent both.

The recreation price index dropped by 0.4 percent year-on-year in May, while the CPI for transport and communication continued to contract by 0.9 percent in the same month.

The CPI for the first five months of this year rose by 1.3 percent over the same period of 2005.
