China will make concerted efforts to cement bilateral exchanges and cooperation with Indonesia to "pass the friendship from generation to generation", Chinese top advisor Jia Qinglin said on Friday.
Jia, who is the chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remark in his meeting with Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party.
He acknowledged that China-Indonesia relations have witnessed extensive progress and the bilateral cooperation in political, trade, cultural and tourist fields has been boosted in recent years.
"The establishment of a strategic partnership between the two nations last year showed that bilateral relations have advanced to a new stage," Jia noted.
He also stressed that the cultivation of good relations between China and Indonesia, both important developing countries, will not only serve the fundamental interests of the two nations, but also help maintain peace, stability and the development of the region and the world.
Jia also briefed his guest about China's policy on the Taiwan issue.
Megawati, who is also the former Indonesian president, said that Indonesia values its ties with China and is committed to making joint efforts with China to boost the bilateral cooperation to a higher level.
About the ties between CPC and her party, Megawati said that the two parties are facing similar challenges in a new era and the Indonesian Democratic Party will expand its cooperation with the CPC to further the traditional friendship.
She also reiterated that Indonesia will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.
Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of the China Central Committee Wang Jiarui also met with Megawati on Friday, and they exchanged views on issues concerning party relations.
