The European Commission (EC) is expecting the Nepali government to sign the Conflict Mitigation Package II of about 652 million Nepali rupees (9.31 million U.S. dollars), state run Radio Nepal reported here Saturday.
"This was stated in a press release issued on Friday by the delegation of the EC in connection with the visit of Erich W Muller, the director for Asia, Europe Aid Cooperation Office of the EC to Nepal," the radio reported.
"The activities of the package aim at strengthening capacity of key legal institutions and support a process of democratic governance, transparency, accountability and rule of law," the radio quoted the statement as saying.
Muller's visit that concluded on Friday was a follow up of the recent visit to Nepal by Herv Jouanjean, the Deputy Director General of External Relations of EC, as well as the visit to Brussels by Nepali Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs KP Sharma Oli.
The purpose of Muller's mission was to assess the needs and identify areas where the EC could mobilize assistance quickly to provide immediate relief to people who have been seriously affected by the conflict.
During his mission, Muller met Nepali Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat, officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, civil society leaders, the EU member states and other members of the international community, including the UN and the World Bank.
