China's special envoy on Middle East issues Sun Bigan arrived in Cairo on Sunday, the first leg of his week-long visit to the region.

During his two-day stay, Sun will hold talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, Presidential Adviser Osama el- Baz and Arab League Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Bin Helli on the latest developments in the Middle East.

Sun will also visit Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Sun, who replaced former envoy Wang Shijie on April 1, participated in the political consultation on the Middle East peace process during a recent China-Arab Cooperation Forum in Beijing, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu.
