Zambian museum acts to woo more touristsThe Zambia National Museum has joined hands with several other museums worldwide in a bid to conduct a marketing strategy that would help increase the inflow of tourists and visitors to museums. The marketing strategy would impart skills to museum staff to enable them to implement various marketing programs, Lusaka National Museum assistant keeper Chilala Habeenzu was cited by Monday's newspaper Times of Zambia as saying. Habeenzu said the partnership included museums in Nigeria, Botswana, Bolivia, Iran, Sweden and the Dominican Republic. She said all the countries involved had a problem of low visitor inflow hence a marketing strategy to reverse the trend. The major problem that Zambia's museums faced was inadequate funding to enable them to carry out promotional programs and improvement of exhibited products, Habeenzu said. Lack of adequate products to exhibit is another problem, Habeenzu said, noting that the Lusaka museum was currently exhibiting products that were meant for six months but had been maintained for 10 years.
