Jia Qinglin, visiting chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), spoke highly of Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang's work since Tsang took office as Hong Kong Chief Executive during his meeting with Tsang earlier Tuesday.

Briefed by Tsang on the latest development of Hong Kong, Jia reiterated that the central government would continue to fully support Tsang and the administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government by law.

Jia said the central government has been attaching great importance to Hong Kong's development. At present, Hong Kong's general situation is good, with economic growth, social stability and livelihood gradual improvement, adding "we are very glad to see the situation."

He expected that under Tsang's leadership and with common efforts of the HKSAR government and people from all walks of life, Hong Kong would be better tomorrow.

Liao Hui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council was present at the meeting.

Jia arrived in Hong Kong Tuesday morning for a three-day visit. He is scheduled to attend the functions marking the third anniversary of the signing of the Chinese mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.
