Euro briefly hits all-time high against yen in Tokyo

The euro briefly hit an all-time high against the yen Tuesday in Tokyo and the U.S. dollar remained at lower 116 yen.

At 5 p.m., the euro was quoted at 1.2595-2597 dollars and 146. 38-42 yen against Monday's 5 p.m. quotes of 1.2576-2586 dollars and 146.25-35 yen in New York and 1.2566-2569 dollars and 146.11- 15 yen in Tokyo.

The euro briefly rose to just below 146.50 yen in the morning, its highest level since its launch in January 1999.

The dollar was quoted at 116.22-24 yen, compared with Monday's 5 p.m. quotes of 116.22-32 yen in New York and 116.25-28 yen in Tokyo.

The dollar traded between 115.86 yen and 116.30 yen during the day, most frequently at 116.20 yen.
