The Belgian referee, Frank De Bleeckere, has been put in charge of the World Cup's quarter final clash between Italy and The Ukraine on Saturday.
The match will take place in Hamburg, which is familiar territory for De Bleeckere, as he has already refereed the group stage match between Argentina and Cote d'Ivoire in the northern Germany city.
Frank De Bleeckere told Belgium's daily "Het Laatste Nieuws" that being chosen to referee the World Cup quarter final is "without doubt the high point of my career".
De Bleeckere said that "after an absence of 16 years Belgian refereeing is back on the world stage".
He said that he doesn't know why he has been chosen.
"Unobtrusive refereeing is an art. The number of cards you show has little or nothing to do with it," he added.
