China's general tariff level was reduced from 10.4% to 9.9% in 2005. This was reported in a 2005 central financial statement by Jin Renqing, Head of Ministry of Commerce at the 22nd Session of the 10th NPC Standing Committee on June 27th.
In 2005 China readjusted her import and export tariff policies: the average rate for agricultural products dropped from 15.6% to 15.3%, for industrial products this was reduced from 9.5% to 9%. Meanwhile in accordance with the relevant tariff agreements, China implemented agreement tariffs for ASEAN, Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and preferential duties for the least developed countries.
