Nepali guerrillas urged to disarm before assembly polls
font size

Nepali Congress Party's General Secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said on Sunday that the Nepalese guerrillas should lay down their arms before going to join in the election to a Constituent Assembly.

"The guerrillas should lay down arms to have peace across the country before going to the Constituent Assembly," Poudel said.

Speaking at the Reporters' Club in Kathmandu, Poudel said that a Peace Committee will begin monitoring the guerrillas' cease-fire process by sending a directive to districts very soon.

The Nepali Congress Party, the largest party in the country, will not go to Constituent Assembly elections with the agenda of ceremonial monarchy, he added.

He also told the reporters, "the Nepali Army is not belong to any King. It is a national army of the Nepali people."
