font size

Zambia has called for review of the air service agreement between Zambia and China signed in 1991 in Beijing to benefit the two sides, The Post newspaper reported Thursday.

Zambian Communication Minister Abel Chambeshi was quoted as saying it is sad that currently there is no airline providing direct service between the two countries.

He told consultations on the agreement that the bilateral agreement need to be reviewed to facilitate movement of people and goods.

He said Zambia has put in place policies in the development of air transport mainly by means of liberalization in order to complement the development of other modes of transport.

"This liberalization is meant to encourage private and public partnership between local and international entities in the air transport sector in order to achieve an efficient air transport system that can serve as an engine for economic development of our two states and of the southern African region," Chambeshi said.

Chinese Vice Minister of the General Administration of Civil Aviation Yang Guoqing attended the consultations.
