The University Teaching Hospital ( UTH), Zambia's biggest referral hospital in the capital Lusaka, has been awarded a status of training center for costing of hospital services for east, central and southern Africa,.
After being awarded the status, UTH will be qualified to train hospital managers from countries in the region in costing of hospital services.
Costing of hospital services is cardinal in providing quality and cost-effective health care to the citizenry as it will enhance operational efficiency of hospitals at all levels, Zambia's acting Health Minister Brian Chituwo was cited by Friday's Zambia Daily Mail as saying.
He said cost information could help set up and determine revenue objectives as the results of the costing exercise would provide the data upon which user charges could be realistic.
The minister said the Zambian government would provide the necessary support to ensure that the objective of the center was realized.
