font size

Nepali Chief Election Commissioner Keshav Raj Rajbhandari announced his resignation from his post on Sunday.

"I have sent my resignation to the Prime Minister's office today," Rajbhandari told reporters at the premises of High-level Probe Commission (HPC).

Rajbhandari was summoned by the HPC in connection to the allegations of his involvement in atrocities during the April movement.

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Nayan Bahadur Khatri along with other NHRC officials is also expected to resign Sunday.

The Chief Election commissioner's move has come at a time when leaders of the major political parties were preparing to file an impeachment motion against Rajbhandari and Khatri at the House of Representatives Sunday.
