Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and his visiting Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, pledged on Tuesday to boost economic cooperation between the two countries, said reports reaching Belgrade from the Croatian capital Zagreb.
Mesic said Kazakhstan was a country of a strong economic growth with ongoing infrastructure projects and fast reforms, Croatia's HINA news agency reported, adding that the two presidents signed a transport agreement but details about the agreement were not immediately disclosed.
Nazarbayev said his visit to Croatia was his first trip to Europe after the last inauguration, adding that his country highly appreciated dynamic relations with Croatia and Croatia's support to Kazakhstan's joining the World Trade Organization.
"Both of our countries have a unique position in their regions and set a good example of how to connect Asia and Europe," Nazarbayev said.
The Kazakh president, who was visiting Croatia at Mesic's invitation, attended Croatia Summit 2006 held on Monday in the southern Adriatic town of Dubrovnik. This is Nazarbayev's second visit to Croatia. His first visit to Zagreb took place five years ago, while Mesic visited Kazakhstan in April 2002.
President Nazarbayev said Kazakh companies were interested in entering the Croatian market and expressed hope that Croatian companies would be interested in doing business in Kazakhstan.
