South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region exported 1,965 tons of hybrid rice seed to neighboring Vietnam, more than any other Chinese provincial area, in the first half of the year.
The regional Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on Saturday that the value of the exports totaled 1.11 million U.S. dollars.
Many hybrid rice varieties of Guangxi were also suitable for the similar geopgraphical and climate conditions of Vietnam.
The administration had enhanced supervision and inspection so as to guarantee the quality of exported rice seed, it said.
The Chinese government should facilitate exports by developing a futures trade and supporting agricultural enterprises with capacity to expand overseas marketd, said Qin De, a senior official at the Guangxi Seed General Station.
