Jordanian protestors condemn Israeli military strikes
font size

Thousands of Jordanians rallied Sunday to express their outrage over Israel's attacks against Lebanon and the Palestinian territories and call for immediate international intervention to bring the Israeli offensives to an end.

The protesters marched through downtown Amman, holding up Jordanian, Palestinian and Lebanese flags and chanting slogans supporting their Palestinian and Lebanese brothers.

"The Israeli aggression in Lebanon and Palestine will make the situation get worse", one of the protestors, Mahmoud Sahem said, adding "we wish the international community can stop it."

Jordanian King Abdullah II and the cabinet have also strongly condemned the continuing Israeli military operation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, saying that such operations will not bring security and stability to anyone except for the innocent Palestinian and Lebanese people.

Israeli air raids shook Beirut early Sunday, the fifth successive day of its offensive on Lebanon, which has killed more than 100 people.

Meanwhile, Israel also widened its offensive in the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

Israel launched military offensives after two soldiers held captive by Lebanon's Hizbollah in an attack last week and another Israeli soldier was abducted by Palestinian militants in an Israeli army post on June 25.
