China urges resumption of six-party talks amid UN resolution on DPRK missile test

China on Sunday urged all parties concerned to make joint efforts to resume the six-party talks as soon as possible, following the unanimous adoption of a UN resolution on the issue of the missile test of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

"We hope all parties concerned will take the adoption of the UN resolution on the DPRK missile test as a turning point," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement.

"All parties concerned should make joint efforts and create favorable conditions to resume the six-party talks as soon as possible," Jiang said.

This is the common aspiration of the international community and the "correct direction" we should strive for, she said.

Jiang said China is "deeply concerned" about "complicated factors" that newly emerged on the the Korean Peninsula.

"China opposes any action that will lead to more complication and tension on the the Korean Peninsula," she said.

China has been committed to maintaining the peace and stability of the peninsula, Jiang said.

"We hold that issues concerning the Korean Peninsular should be peacefully resolved through dialogue and negotiation," the spokeswoman said. "We have always urged the parties concerned to keep calmness and restraint."

The UN Security Council on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution on the DPRK missile tests, calling for the early resumption of the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
