At least eight Israelis killed in Hizbollah's rocket attack on Haifa

At least eight Israelis were killed and many others wounded in rocket attacks against Israel's northern city of Haifa by Lebanese Hizbollah militia on Sunday morning, said media reports.

Medics were quoted as saying that the death toll from Hizbollah rocket attacks Haifa on Sunday rose to eight, with at least 14 wounded, some of them seriously.

Three cities on the Haifa Bay were hit by Katyusha rockets, Israeli Channel 2 TV reported.

According to the report, the central residential and business district of Haifa Ahuza were attacked by several rockets. Katyusha rockets also landed in the city of Acre and Nahariya and the town of Kiryat Haim located north of Haifa.

Residents of Acre, Haifa and its suburbs were told to enter bomb shelters.

The Islamic Resistance, an armed wing of Hizbollah, claimed on Sunday it launched an attack against an oil refinery in Haifa, according to the group's Al-Manar television station.

Hezbollah said in a statement it fired "tens" of rockets at Haifa at 9 a.m. (0600 GMT), vowing to fire more rockets on the city.

Some of the rockets landed near an oil refinery, gas storage tanks and the train station, police said, adding that the dead were all at a train station in Haifa.

Haifa was hit by Hizbollah militants with a rocket for the first time on Thursday.

Israel launched a military offensive after two soldiers were kidnapped by Hizbollah in an attack on Wednesday, which also killed eight others.
