Singapore's non-oil exports up 17 percent in June

Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) posted a robust growth of 17 percent in June 2006 as compared with the same month of last year.

According to the figures released by the International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) on Monday, the exports of electronic products rose by 9.1 percent in June over the previous year while the exports of non-electronic products expanded by 24 percent in the same month.

The NODX to China and the United States increased by 32 percent and 21 percent year-on-year in June respectively and the NODX to the European Union (EU) contracted by 6.1 percent in the same period.

Singapore's total trade grew by 21 percent to reach 72 billion Singapore dollars (about 45 billion U.S. dollars) in June over the same month of 2005, bringing the first six months' total trade to 395 billion Singapore dollars (about 249 billion U.S. dollars).
