The 38th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings will take place on August 21-25 here this year, officials said here on Monday.

The meeting will be preceded by the Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) on August 16-18, said Aniceta Ferns, coordinator of the 38th AEM Meeting Media Secretariat.

The Related Meetings to be held are the ASEAN Free Trade Area ( AFTA) Council Meeting, ASEAN Investment Area (AIA) Council Meeting and AEM Consultations with China, South Korea, Japan, India, Australia and New Zealand, the European Union and the United States, according to the secretariat.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups 10 member countries -- Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

The First AEM Meeting was held in Jakarta, Indonesia in November 1975.
