Nierji Water Conservancy, a water control project on the trunk of Nenjiang River in Heilongjiang Province, which is one of the key projects of the "Tenth-Five Year" period has been completed. Its first dynamotor successfully entered into operation on July 16th.
The project is a comprehensive water control project for flood-control, water supply, power generation, irrigation, shipping and ecological environment water consumption, and is greatly available for the optimization of water conservancy in Songhuajiang River and Liao River regions. It controls 45 percent of the runoff of the Nenjiang River and has a storage capacity of 8.611 billion cubic meters (2.27 trillion gallons) and an installed power capacity of 250,000 kilowatts. When the project is completed, flood-control ability in Qiqihar city will have improved enough to resist 100-year floods from 50-year floods previously. Each year it will offer 1.029 billion cubic meters for the cities in the lower reaches, 1.646 billion cubic meters for the agricultural irrigation, which is to enlarge the irrigation area in the lower reach of up to 4.54 million mu (3 billion square meters), 820 million cubic meters for shipping, 475 million cubic meters for environmental water consumption and 328 million cubic meters for wetland to improve the shipping condition and ecological environment.
