Circular on celebrating Army's founding anniversary issuedThe Ministry of Civil Affairs and the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) issued a circular on Monday ahead of the 79th anniversary on August 1 of the founding of the Chinese armed forces. This year is the 70th anniversary of the end of the Long March (1934-36), a famous military maneuver carried out by the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to combat the Kuomintang Regime. In the circular, the authorities urged both the Army and civilians to conduct activities in memory of the Long March. Local governments and Party committees are urged to assist the Army in carrying out military training, fostering personnel and upgrading equipment. The Army has also been requested to assist localities in implementing the new rural development program, dubbed the "new countryside campaign". Furthermore, both the Army and local governments should conduct an overall inspection to see if there are serious problems that may affect the relations between the two sides, according to the circular.
