Chinese president back in Beijing from St. Petersburg

Chinese President Hu Jintao Tuesday morning returned to Beijing from Russia's St.Petersburg, where he attended the outreach session of the Group of Eight (G8) summit.

State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan also returned aboard the same plane.

At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Chinese president attended Monday's meeting, which focused on issues of energy security, infectious diseases and education.

On the sidelines of the summit, Hu had a trilateral meeting with leaders from Russia and India as well as a group meeting with leaders from India, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico and the Republic of Congo.

Hu also had a series of bilateral meetings with some leaders present at the summit. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and world and regional issues.

The G-8 members are Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
