Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia are discussing air service in southern Zambia, The Post reported in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Official from the department of civil aviation both of Zambia and Zimbabwe held a meeting Tuesday in Livingstone, capital of Southern Province, to discuss ways of extending air services between the two neighboring countries, according to the local newspaper.
Zambia Airways chief executive officer Don Mcdonald, who is one of the delegates, hoped that the outcome of the meeting will lead to more routes in the countries.
"The tourism industry is growing and this is the time to think of having more flights to a number of towns around the neighboring countries. What is happening is that Zambia Airways only has a route from Lusaka to Harare. We want to see flights going to Bulawayo and other places as well," he said.
A meeting between Zambia and Mozambique was put off Monday after the later failed to travel in time for the bilateral talks.
After the bilateral meetings, multi-lateral meetings will be held. At the end of the meetings on Friday a memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed by the governments as a sign of long lasting agreement on air service provision by the four southern African countries.
