font size

The U.S. dollar briefly rose above the mid-117 yen line Wednesday in Tokyo with investors adjusting positions before the release of U.S. price data and congressional testimony by the U.S. Federal Reserve chief later in the day, both of which could provide hints about the direction of U.S. interest rates.

At 5:00 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 117.54-56 yen, against Tuesday's 5:00 p.m. quotes of 117.27-37 yen in New York and 116.87- 90 yen in Tokyo.

It moved between 117.21 yen and 117.57 yen during the day, trading most frequently at 117.25 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.2488-2490 dollars and 146.79-83 yen, compared with Tuesday's 5:00 p.m. quotes of 1.2502-2512 dollars and 146.67-77 yen in New York and 1.2537-2540 dollars and 146.55- 59 yen in Tokyo.
