Investors' confidence in Tanzania up: report

The confidence in Tanzania as shown by investors from both home and abroad has gone up when 358 projects were registered with the Tanzania Investment Center ( TIC) in the first half of this year.

The figure represented a 34-plus-percent increase against the 266 projects registered during the same period last year, according to the latest report from the investment center.

The TIC also disclosed that between 2000 and 2005, 2,815 projects have been registered pooling in a total investment of 9.4 trillion Tanzanian shillings (7.52 billion U.S. dollars).

Of the 742 foreigner-owned and 804 joint-venture projects registered during this period, Britain is the number one foreign investor, followed by India and China.

Other top foreign investors in Tanzania include South Africa, the Netherlands, Kenya, the United States, Canada, Germany and Italy.
