China launched a photo exhibition on Wednesday to demonstrate China-Sweden friendly exchanges.

The exhibition is one of the most important activities held during the visit of the replica of the Swedish merchant ship "Gotheborg" to China.

The exhibition, with around 30 pictures, shows historical moments in the development of bilateral ties, such as China-Sweden trade contacts in 18th century, the establishment of diplomatic ties and photos of the two countries' pingpong champions.

The legendary "Gotheborg" made three voyages from Gothenburg to Guangzhou between 1743 and 1745, pioneering trade between Sweden and China. On its last return trip to Sweden in 1745, it smashed into rocks and sunk about 900 meters from its destination after a 30-month voyage to China.

Its replica, "Gotheborg III", departed from the Swedish city of Gothenburg last October and arrived in Guangzhou on Tuesday for a one-month stay.

Bosse Ringholm, Swedish deputy prime minister, said his country was the first western country to forge diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China 56 years ago. Bilateral exchanges have continuously expanded since.

"The current China trip of 'Gotheborg III' reminds us of the historic moment more than 260 years ago. We are now eager to develop modern contacts with China." he said.

The exhibition will last for three days.
