Another deadly cattle disease known as Contagious Bovine Pleuro Pneumonia (CBPP) has hit the Isingiro district in western Uganda, causing a new wave of scare after foot-and-month disease, the state-owned New Vision reported on Thursday .
District veterinary officer Sedrak Kasozi was quoted as saying it was suspected that the disease was introduced into the area by over 4,000 herdsmen who were recently expelled from Bukoba in Tanzania with over 50,000 head of cattle.
"We are working around the clock to curb the disease before it can spread or cause grave harm," Kasozi said.
The CBPP is a kind of highly contagious disease that spreads through inhaling droplets from an infected and coughing animal.
This outbreak came shortly after the foot-and-month disease struck the cattle-keeping region.
