Tanzania ranks 5th on World Bank assessment list
font size

The World Bank has ranked Tanzania fifth out of the 76 countries assessed by the global financial institution for effectiveness in the use of international assistance funds in 2005.

The east African country has scored an index of 3.9 from the four clusters of criteria groups of economic management, structural policies, policies for social inclusion and public sector management.

Armenia tops last year's ranking with an index of 4.3 while Zimbabwe bottoms the ranking with a 1.8 scoring. Six is the highest possible score any country can score off the ranking system whereas one is the lowest possible point.

Tanzania joined the world financial institution in 1962, one year after its independence and the east African country started in 1963 with a credit from the World Bank's International Development Assistance for education.

The World Bank now engages in supporting 23 active projects in the country with a total commitment of 1.6 billion U.S. dollars.
