Cargo and container handling capacity of Chinese ports tops world rankings

The cargo and container handling capacity of China's ports currently respectively stand at 4.91 billion tons and 75.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), taking it to top rank in the world for the third consecutive year.

Quoting a meeting of China Association of Port-of-Entry, the overseas edition of the People's Daily said on Thursday that China has developed its own approach to opening up air,land and sea ports.

China has opened 253 state-level ports to the outside world, including 133 water transport ports, 17 railway ports, 47 road ports and 56 aviation ports, the report said.
